Veterans

For US Military Veterans coming from the Navy (USN), Marine Corps (USMC), Air Force (USAF), Coast Guard (USCG) and Army who want to learn woodworking and are eligible to use the GI Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation (AKA “ Voc Rehab “) benefits paid out via the Veterans Administration.

Apply for your VA Benefits to receive a Certificate of Eligibility through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Education Services. Questions? Call 888-442-4551. A VA counselor can help you decide whether to use your GI Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation benefits. Furniture Intensive students: it’s important to begin this process early in order to acquire the necessary tools before class starts.

Each course listed below is approved for GI Bill® and Veterans Readiness and Employment (VRE) funding. More information about education benefits offered by VA is available at the official U.S. government Web site at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill. A veteran may attend any of the courses separately, or consecutively for up to 6 months of fine woodworking training. These two 12-week intensives are progressively challenging courses:

What can you do to get ready? 

  1. Thoroughly review class descriptions and applications. Get started early; 12-week intensives require application approval.

  2. Apply for your VA Benefits to receive a Certificate of Eligibility through the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Education Services. Questions? Call 888-442-4551.   3. Once you receive your COE, send it via email with the name(s) of the class(es) you are applying for to the Registrar at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking. Call Marge Roark at (360) 344-4455 or email registrar@ptwoodschool.org. Once your COE is received you will be sent a Department of Education College Financial Aid Shopping Sheet. This will report tuition and materials costs as well as estimates for room, board and tools for upper division students. It will list the financial aid programs available to you through the VA and through the school and let you know what resources are and are not available. Once you have been accepted and have approved of your financial aid plan you can begin the enrollment and registration process.
