Scholarships at the Port Townsend School of Woodworking

PTSW Scholarship Program

Our mission is to inspire a lifelong respect for craftsmanship and a passion for creating by providing a diverse, safe, and excellent woodworking education for all.

All PTSW courses are eligible for scholarships. Our goal is to grant $50,000 worth of tuition scholarships annually to create more equitable access to woodworking education.

The scholarships are for tuition fees only. Students are responsible for their accommodations, meals, transportation, and materials fees during the course.

Our Process

PTSW reviews and awards scholarship applications on a quarterly basis. Scholarship application review is conducted by a Scholarship Committee that is composed of board members, staff, faculty, alumni, and volunteers. If you are interested in serving on the Scholarship Committee, email Executive Director Heron Scott (heron@ptwoodschool.org).

Individuals applying for scholarships to our 12-week intensives, Foundations of Woodworking I and Foundations of Woodworking II may be asked for an interview with our Scholarship Committee.

The Scholarship Committee will make award decisions guided by the following factors:

Equity - Does the scholarship applicant represent an underserved demographic in the woodworking field?

Economics - Can the scholarship applicant demonstrate an economic need for assistance?

Funding - What is the available funding at PTSW for scholarship awards?

Types of Scholarships

General:
All courses at PTSW, including 12-week intensives, are eligible for scholarship awards. We ask that you request a tuition award amount equal to a percent of the tuition cost that will enable you to attend the course of your choosing.
