Turning and Creative Finishing

Turning and Creative Finishing

5 Days, Open to All

Summer 2025
August 4-8

This five-day class is designed to provide students with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of woodturning in a fun, open, and sharing atmosphere. Whether you are a beginner or want to improve on your current skills, this workshop will guide you through tool selection, sharpening, safety, and techniques that will help you realize the possibilities of turning. We will begin with spindle turning and then progress into faceplate turning to make small bowls or platters. Aspects of design and surface embellishment with the use of milk paint and texture will also be explored. You will leave with a series of finished objects and a solid understanding of woodturning and its potential as an art form.

This five-day course is designed as a progressive journey through woodturning and surface embellishment. You will learn the fundamentals of woodturning using both spindle and face plate turning techniques. You will create a series of objects and explore surface design using milk paint and simple textures. Each day will be spent learning new techniques that will build off the previous day’s lessons and skills.

During the week you will create and finish a pair of candlesticks, a small stool, a shallow platter, and a small bowl.
