Spoon Carving

Weekend Class, Open to All

In this weekend course, you will create your own path in spoon carving by learning various spoon carving designs and techniques you can replicate and practice independently. Spoon carving is an introduction to the greater world of woodworking; skills from this class will extend into other forms of craft.

In this weekend course, we cover all manner of approaches to spoons. You will explore the use of basic axes, hand tools such as straight and bent knives, draw knives, spokeshaves, and carving gouges. We will use many forms of holding devices such as shave horses, ropes, vices, and clamps. Safe use of a bandsaw will be covered.

The course will start with basic hand tool demonstrations. While you are encouraged to bring your own tools, there will be a number of different types of knives, both straight and curved, available to use and share. We will also cover methods for holding spoon blanks to increase safety and reduce hand fatigue.

You should complete at least one spoon over the weekend, hopefully more!
