Build a comfortable and elegant rocking chair while learning the techniques of building quality furniture efficiently in this six-day course.

In this six-day course you will build and go home with a rocking chair. You will learn the important concepts of building rockers along with how to build quality furniture in a way that is safe and efficient. You will also learn how to use a wide variety of power tools and perform complicated joinery along with building a piece of furniture successfully. 

We will dive into this class learning techniques to design and build furniture that is curved and has compound angles. Students will learn and be comfortable using a horizontal mortiser. They will also be introduced to the business aspects of building furniture.

Topics include:

  • How to correctly process wood with tools

  • Angles and designs that make chairs comfortable 

  • Building furniture efficiently and comfortably 

  • Techniques of chair building 

Introduction to power tools  

  • Jointer 

  • Planer 

  • Chop saw 

  • Bandsaw

  • Table saw

  • Mortiser 

  • Sander 

  • Router Tables 

  • Drill press 

Techniques for joinery and shaping 

  • Joinery at complex angles 

  • Using the bandsaw to make curved cuts

  • Clamping, gluing, sanding and finishing 

Required Tools

  • Safety gear - dust mask, ear protection  and safety  glasses

  • 5mm mechanical pencil

  • Pen 

  • Eraser

Recommended Equipment

  • 6-inch ruler

  • 6-inch double or adjustable square 

  • 16-foot tape measure

Open to all skill levels.
